Internal Reference: Promotional Offer & Auto-Enroll Configuration Options
Internal Use Only
This document outlines the available promotional implementation approaches and Smart Unit Monitoring/Auto-Enroll configuration options that may be discussed with customers during onboarding or checkout configuration.
Promotional Offer Scenarios
There are currently three recommended approaches for implementing promotional offers within the rental experience.
Each option has different tradeoffs related to implementation effort, invoice clarity, and facility cost exposure.
Option 1: Storage Defender Promotional Playbook
Overview
Run the promotional structure provided by Storage Defender.
Pros
- Easy implementation
- Minimal setup effort
Cons
- Facility absorbs the credit overage
- Can create customer confusion when reviewing invoices
Recommended For
Facilities looking for the fastest and simplest deployment with minimal configuration requirements.
Option 2: First Full Month Free (Recommended)
Overview
Customer pays at move-in and receives the promotional credit during Month 2.
This approach avoids prorated calculations during the initial rental.
Pros
- Easiest implementation
- Cleanest customer experience
- Transparent pricing
- Clear and easy-to-understand invoices
- Simplified support and troubleshooting
Cons
- Customer pays something on Day 1
Recommended For
Most customers. This is generally the cleanest and easiest option to implement, explain, and support.
Option 3: 31-Day Promotional Structure
Overview
Use Storagely's more accurate promotional model that accounts for varying month lengths.
Pros
- More precise promotional calculations
- Facility absorbs only minimal costs (typically a few cents on 28-, 29-, or 30-day months)
- Cleaner invoice presentation than traditional credit methods
Cons
- More complex implementation
- Requires 31 individual promotions to be configured in the FMS
- Still involves some customer-facing math due to rent credits rather than fee credits
- Limited by the current StorEDGE promotion handling
Recommended For
Operators seeking the most accurate promotional structure and willing to invest additional setup effort.
Smart Unit Monitoring / Auto-Enroll Options
These settings are configured globally and determine how Smart Unit Monitoring enrollment is presented during checkout.
Option 1: Default Off
Behavior
- Smart Unit Monitoring is not pre-selected
- The customer may choose to enroll
Notes
- Technically not auto-enrollment
- Provides the customer with the most flexibility
Option 2: Default On With Opt-Out
Behavior
- Smart Unit Monitoring is pre-selected
- Customer can deselect the option before completing checkout
Notes
- Common balance between enrollment adoption and customer choice
- Often results in higher enrollment rates
Option 3: Default On With No Opt-Out
Behavior
- Smart Unit Monitoring is automatically selected
- Customer cannot remove the service during checkout
Notes
- Highest enrollment rate
- Service becomes a required component of the rental process
- Customer should be informed of this policy before implementation
Discovery Questions for Customers
When discussing promotions and Smart Unit Monitoring, confirm the following:
Promotions
- Which promotional structure would you like to use?
- Are invoice simplicity and transparency important to your operation?
- Are you willing to configure multiple promotions in the FMS for greater accuracy?
Smart Unit Monitoring
- Should enrollment be optional or required?
- If optional, should the service be pre-selected by default?
- Do you want customers to be able to remove the service during checkout?
These decisions should be finalized before checkout configuration and customer sign-off.
