## Overview:

When your website appears in Google search results, the text shown beneath the page title is called a search snippet. While Storagely allows you to edit SEO titles and meta descriptions, what appears in search results is not always a direct reflection of those fields.

Google often generates search snippets dynamically, pulling content from various areas of your website—such as page headings, visible text, and location information—based on what it believes best matches a user’s search. Because of this, meta titles and descriptions should be treated as **guidance rather than guarantees.**

This article explains how Google creates search snippets, where that content comes from, and how to update or change your site’s meta descriptions in Storagely. The most effective approach focuses on clear, consistent on-page content and strong location signals, rather than relying solely on meta fields or frequently changing promotional language.

### How Google Generates Search Snippets

Storagely & Google does not guarantee that the meta title or meta description you set on a page will appear in search results.

Instead, Google often rewrites or dynamically selects snippet content based on what it believes best matches a user’s search intent. Meta fields are treated as signals or suggestions, not fixed outputs.

Because of this, repeated changes to meta titles or descriptions do not always produce consistent or predictable results in search listings.

### Common Sources Google Uses for Snippets

Google may pull snippet content from multiple on-page elements, including:

- **Website Titles & Meta Descriptions**
- **Page Headings (H1, H2, H3)**
  - Example: A heading like “Conveniently Located in the Heart of \[Location City]” may appear directly in search results.
- **Visible Page Content **Google often pulls from:
  - Intro paragraphs
  - Body copy
  - SEO content blocks
  - Internal link text
  - This is why on-page content quality matters as much as meta fields.
- **Location & Address Fields**
  - Business name, city, and address information may be pulled from:
    - Location settings
    - Address fields used across the site

## Where You Can Update SEO Information in Storagely

The Location Settings page is divided into multiple sections, allowing operators to configure different aspects of their facility settings.

### SEO Settings (Use with Caution)

Users can manage SEO-related settings to improve Google search rankings for their facility. However, updating SEO settings requires SEO expertise.
:::

- **SEO settings include:**
  - **Location URL Slug** – Defines how the facility’s URL appears on the website.
  - **Canonical URL** – Ensures search engines direct users to the correct page.
  - **Title & Meta Descriptions** – Optimize search results with relevant keywords.
  - **Primary Keyphrase** – Main keyword associated with the facility’s SEO strategy.
  - **Noindex Toggle** – Allows users to prevent search engines from indexing certain pages.

### Why On-Page Optimization Matters More Than Meta Fields

Because Google dynamically selects snippet content, our SEO approach focuses on:

- Consistent keyword usage
- Clear location signals
- High-quality, readable on-page content
- Logical heading structure

This creates stronger relevance signals across the entire page rather than relying solely on meta titles or descriptions.

### Best Practices for SEO Snippet Optimization

- Treat meta titles and descriptions as guidance, not guarantees.
- Keep on-page content clear, accurate, and location-specific.
- Use meaningful H2 and H3 headings.
- Avoid promotional or time-sensitive language in meta fields.
- Focus on long-term consistency rather than short-term testing.
